Origami Chairs

So our hw for the week in furniture design was to come up with a few different designs of origami chairs. We were told that we couldn’t use any adhesives and everything had to be joined by slots or something of that sort. We had to work in 1/8 scale also, so halfway through I felt like I was making tiny chairs for a japanese doll house, haha. Anyways, here are some sketches that I used to inspire myself and then some shots of the results.

Our instructor then did a weight test by placing about 25-30lbs of aluminum blocks and/or shop tools on top. I was surprised at how well mine held up seeing how I was one of the few people to use illustration board and not foam core.

Who knew making origami out of a few sheets of illustration board could be so fun!
